Small Model Steam Engine Group (SMSEG)

The Small Model Steam Engine Group within GMES was started in 2007 following a couple of ‘trial’ displays of model steam engines which proved that there was an interest in this type and scale of steam model, both from those who just like to run their Mamod, Wilesco, Jenson etc type models and from those who collect older models such as Bing, Bowman and Mersey etc. or have larger Stuart Turner type models.

One of the main aims of the group, apart from the obvious one of having a good “steam up”, is to try to get more junior members into the club. It is hoped that by setting up an entry level group we can also encourage new comers to then become interested in the wider world of model engineering.

There have now been a number of meetings of the group for GMES members and invited guests where people have turned up with a few models to display and/or run. These have included some interesting Meccano constructions that can be driven from a steam engine.

All GMES members and invited guests are welcome to come along to the Sunday afternoon meetings, either just to see what’s happening and have a chat or to bring something to show and/or steam up. See the Events page for dates of SMSEG meetings.
