Welcome to the website of the Guildford Model Engineering Society (GMES). We hope that you will find something of interest, whether you are a member of the public, visiting model engineer, current member, or prospective member. If you have any comments, please contact our webmaster, Andrew Neish.

Notices for Members

• Raised Track for Sale
  The old raised track that is being replaced will eventually be sold as scrap metal. However if members would like any of it please see Len Steel. It is available for £2 per metre run. If particular curves or straights are wanted they can also be reserved via Len who will mark off the sections required.
   
• Old tools
  The club is still collecting old steel tools to weld up into gates like the new one used for the rally.
   
• Raised Track Availability
  The rail and sleepers on the raised track is being replaced over the winter. The track will, at times, be in the posession of the track laying team. Temporary transitions between old and new rail may have to be negotiated at reduced speed and the track may be left incomplete at times. Notices will be posted on this website and at the club with further details but before running you MUST walk the track to ascertain its condition.
   
• Volunteers
  Club members required to help on this season's open days. Drivers, Locomotives and Guards for both raised and ground level tracks. Station staff and other general helpers are also required. If you can give an hour and a half or preferably the whole afternoon for any of the above tasks please contact the open day organiser, Bernie King, on his email or fill in the sheets on the club house notice board.
   
  I am currently putting a list of names together for the next open day but am interested in anyone that can commit to any of the later open days.

Clearly No.2 was too easy. Andy Attwell was again first off the mark, closely followed by Messrs Kiddell, Snipp, Deller and Boydell. I even had a nice e-mail from the Swanage Railway's webmaster. The location was, of course, the motive power depot at Swanage.

Now for Wozzat No.3. It's a 2 foot gauge locomotive powered by a V-twin petrol engine, but what's it for?

• Website faults
  If you find an error, or a link that doesn't work (and the remainder is working normally), please let me know. If everybody leaves it to someone else it can be quite a while before I spot the problem.
   
• Photos
  I am always happy to receive photos for the website and I prefer them full size or reduced to not less than 800 x 600 with the minimum of compression. Please e-mail them to the current webmaster address (see the Contact Us page).
  If sending a large number, you may prefer to put them on a CD. Note that any packaging of a bare CD beyond a strong unpadded envelope will take the thickness beyond that for the Royal Mail standard "letter" rate (240 x 165 x 5mm, 100g max). The additional postage is trivial but if the postage is not correct the admin charge of £1 and trip to the sorting office to pay it is a pain.
   
• Website Update E-mails
  I have recently removed a handfull of addresses from my mailing list as I suspect that they are no longer used. If you are not receiving these e-mails (generally a couple of times a month) and would like to be added to the distribution list, please e-mail me.
