Our regular public open afternoons are popular with families and entrance is free. Train rides are available on both our ground level and raised tracks. Tickets are 80p each or £2 for three, a saving of 40p. You can keep unused tickets for travel on a later date. Our outdoor "garden" railway will be running, as will our OO gauge railway in the clubhouse. Light refreshments are available. The profits from the sale of railway tickets on our Charity Day are used to support a local charity. In 2011, as last year, this is Disability Challengers, who are our neighbours in Stoke Park.
Our major event is the Model Steam Rally and Exhibition held annually over a weekend in July. We have a large marquee to allow us to display members' work, dozens of visiting model traction engines, two model boating pools and an intensive schedule of steam-hauled passenger trains. We also have several trade stands selling tools, materials and finished models. We offer a more extensive range of food than on our open afternoons.
All our public events are held at our Stoke Park site. We don't offer pre-booking; just turn up on the day.
Non-members with an interest in joining the Society are welcome to contact us at one of our public events or by post or e-mail.
GMES is a popular venue for children's birthday parties. We run trains on one of our passenger-carrying railways and offer the use of the clubhouse and grounds. More details.
GMES holds regular meetings for different interest groups: The 16mm, garden railway, section; The 4mm, OO gauge, section and The Small Model Steam Engine Group. Many club members, particularly those retired, come to the club on Thursdays to socialise and to help maintain and improve the Society's grounds and facilities.
